HYSTERIC PAM: A day in the life of Marpi and Weirdo for PAM X Hysteric Glamour, a collaboration so deeply intrinsic that it’s nuts it hasn’t happened before.
Asked to come up with a video work based on the duo, Luke Casey and co. came back with a joyously bent vision of how a marginalised frog (Weirdo) and his best unidentified life-form friend (Marpi) might spend their time.
Based on well known characters from the two brands, each toy was hand made in Tokyo by Nobuhiko Kitamura (Hysteric Glamour) and Katsutoshi Tomita (Hysteric Mini). If that’s not special enough, only 30 of each design were produced, and their magnetised hands instinctively cling to one another.
With so many years of collective history to work from, the apparel features a heavily edited selection of graphics and styles from each brands long visual journey. Handmaidens, vixens, bears and aliens are all present, on tees, tops, trucker caps, hotpants, socks and stickers.
“When I was a teen the first thing I typed into a search engine, maybe AltaVista, was ‘Hysteric Glamour’... It was a brand of legend and mystery, rare, beyond cool and very, very hard to get” @shauna_teee (P.A.M.) recalls, enlisting friends traveling to Japan to secure her pieces, and finally leaving the Tokyo store at age 21 with a baby tee in hand and NFS toys in mind.
The collaboration launches globally today at:
⭒ PERKSANDMINI.COM and PAM Stores.
⭒ HYSTERICGLAMOUR.JP and Shibuya store.
⭒ GR8 Shibuya and online.
⭒ Dover Street Market Singapore.
⭒ Arriving soon at DSM London, LA and NY.
